August 26-29., 2010 WIE WINS ! With an opening round 7 under par 65 Michelle Wie won her second LPGA Tournament, The CN Canadian Women's Open, played at the beautiful St. Charles Country Club in friendly Winnipeg Manitoba. The par 72., 6572 yard layout which was touched by both Donald Ross and Dr. Alistair Mackenzie proved to very much to Michelle's liking as she finished the tournament at 12 under par, 3 strokes ahead of a 4 way tie for second place. Michelle's opening. round 65 was low round for the tournament and was more then enough to take home the trophy as well as her largest paycheck of the year. I just had the opportunity to speak with a friend from Winnipeg that followed Michelle both Saturday and Sunday of her start to finish victory and his comments were quite revealing. In a nutshell he said that her ball striking was so superior to all the others he had seen, he really didn't know how the others could compete. When I asked to to try and compare it to anyone else he had seen his reply was instant. "Jack Nicklaus about 20 years ago when he played in the Canadian Open." Hmmm, interesting indeed. (Oh by the way, my friend does not know I publish this web site.) Lastly the $337,500 winner's check jumped Michelle to number 10 on the 2010 LPGA money list at $667,159.00 for the 15 events she has played.
